Opal

Opal is a noncrystalline silica containing a small percentage of water. Opals are often translucent and milky with an appearance that is so characteristic it is described as opalescent. Precious opal displays an internal irridescence due to light diffraction by the network of tiny spheres of which they are composed.

Fire opal is type of common opal with orange-yellow to reddish orange color. May be a bit cloudy or almost perfectly transparent. In healing, it is associated with the sacral chakra.

Peruvian Opal (also called blue opal) is a semi-opaque to opaque blue-green stone found in Peru which is often cut to include the matrix in the more opaque stones.

Opal is the birthstone for the month of October.
